据中国官方媒体《环球时报》报道，北京希望欧盟在7月4日之前取消对中国电动车的初步关税，这是在双方同意进行新的贸易谈判之后提出的。
欧盟计划在7月4日之前对进口的中国电动车征收最高38.1%的临时关税，理由是欧盟认为中国对电动车制造商提供了过多且不公平的补贴。
中国多次呼吁欧盟取消这些关税，并表示愿意进行谈判。北京不希望再次卷入关税战争，特别是还未从特朗普政府对中国商品征收的关税中恢复过来，但也表示若发生关税战，将采取一切措施保护中国企业。
在欧盟委员会委员瓦尔迪斯·东布罗夫斯基斯与中国商务部长王文涛周六通话后，双方同意开始关税谈判，当时德国经济部长正在访问中国，并表示讨论的大门是“敞开的”。
《环球时报》在周日晚间援引观察人士的话报道，谈判的最佳结果是欧盟在7月4日之前取消其关税决定。
该报指出，欧盟日益加剧的保护主义措施将引发中国的反制措施，贸易摩擦升级只会导致双方“双输”的结果。
欧盟的反补贴调查将在11月2日结束，届时将最终确定关税。
中国否认了不公平补贴的指控，称中国电动车产业的发展是技术、市场和产业供应链优势的结果。
