According to a Bloomberg report on Sunday, Apple's recently announced AI features will be delayed and won't be included in the initial software update for its flagship iPhone and iPad devices.
Bloomberg's report indicates that Apple's AI initiative, named Apple Intelligence, will miss the initial release of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 in September. These AI features will be launched in October alongside a significant update, iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1.
Bloomberg also revealed that Apple plans to offer these AI tools to developers as early as this week.
In June this year, Apple introduced a range of new AI-driven features to respond to the increasing focus on AI from major tech companies. Apple Intelligence allows users to generate text and images, and is expected to offer better voice assistant support.
Apple Intelligence will be available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad, and Mac devices equipped with M1 chips and later versions.
AI is expected to help Apple counteract the ongoing slowdown in sales of its flagship iPhones, a problem the company has faced over the past year due to increased market competition and smartphone market saturation.
Apple plans to announce its June quarterly earnings later this week, with device sales expected to continue declining.
