According to a Bloomberg report on Monday, Apple rejected Meta Platforms' proposal to integrate its AI chatbot into the iPhone a few months ago. Sources revealed that the two companies had not discussed AI collaboration regarding Meta's Llama chatbot, only having brief talks in March.
The report stated that discussions about potential cooperation did not reach a formal stage, and Apple had no plans to integrate Llama into the iPhone as it considered Meta, the parent company of Instagram, to lack stringent privacy protections.
Initial talks occurred while Apple began discussing cooperation agreements with OpenAI's ChatGPT and Alphabet's Gemini. It was reported that at its annual developer conference in early June, Apple unveiled its long-awaited AI strategy, introducing OpenAI's ChatGPT to its devices and integrating new "Apple Intelligence" technology, including the virtual assistant Siri, into its application suite.
Apple and Meta did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.
On Sunday, The Wall Street Journal first reported on the talks between the two companies.
