This Sunday, the media reported that the former CEO of Rockwell Collins is now in Boeing's sights and may become the next Boeing CEO.

According to industry officials, former Rockwell Collins CEO Kelly Ortberg has been added to Boeing's candidates for the next CEO. Sunday's report states that Spirit AeroSystems CEO Pat Shanahan and Boeing COO Stephanie Pope are also among the candidates for the position.

Reuters previously reported that Shanahan, Pope, and Boeing Chairman Steve Mollenkopf are strong contenders for the position.

In early July, Boeing announced its acquisition of its former subsidiary Spirit AeroSystems in a $4.7 billion stock transaction.

RTX's Rockwell Collins produces aircraft communications, electronics, and aviation systems for both commercial and military clients. After leading Rockwell Collins and its successor entities for about eight years, Ortberg retired in 2021 and became an advisor to the RTX CEO. During his tenure, the company underwent mergers, acquisitions, and restructuring.

Boeing did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment outside of regular business hours.

Since Dave Calhoun announced in March that he would step down by the end of the year, Boeing has been searching for a new leader. Previously, Boeing underwent extensive management restructuring following the mid-air panel explosion incident on a 737 MAX aircraft.
