On September 12, DouYu released its unaudited financial report for the second quarter of 2024, showing a revenue of 1.032 billion yuan and a gross profit of 84.2 million yuan, with a gross profit margin of 8.2%. Although the company is still experiencing losses overall, the net loss has significantly narrowed to 45.5 million yuan compared to the previous quarter, indicating a sustained improvement in DouYu's operational efficiency during a sluggish industry period. Notably, revenue from innovative businesses and advertising reached 242 million yuan this quarter, accounting for 23.4% of total revenue, a significant increase compared to the same period last year, becoming a key driver of the company's transformation.
Diverse Revenue Streams Aid Performance Recovery:
DouYu revealed in its financial report that revenues from innovative businesses, advertising, and other sectors have grown substantially, with game prop sales and membership income being highlights in innovative businesses. Revenue from game sections such as Moonlight Blade and Peace Elite performed particularly well. By optimizing payment experiences and increasing promotional activities, DouYu has elevated user spending levels. This strategy has detected new growth trajectories outside live-streaming income and laid the foundation for optimizing future income structures.
Operational Efficiency Improvement, Significant Loss Reduction:
DouYu continued to improve its operational efficiency this quarter. Through refined content operations and optimized host resources, the platform's content offerings have become more diverse. For example, after the return of Blizzard's national server, DouYu significantly boosted user activity through high-density host activities. Moreover, DouYu enhanced its platform's content appeal by incentivizing top hosts and increasing the streaming frequency of mid- and long-tail hosts. Despite the industry's overall downturn, DouYu's efficient management and content ecosystem operations have substantially reduced losses, demonstrating business resilience.
Continued Growth in Event Ecosystem, Stable User Data:
DouYu has also achieved significant progress in event operation. By broadcasting major official events like League of Legends LPL and Honor of Kings KPL and launching over 50 self-produced platform esports events, DouYu successfully garnered substantial user attention. Particularly in segments like DOTA2 and Honor of Kings, the platform not only increased content richness through official events but also created a unique entertainment experience via cross-platform cooperative events, attracting more engaged users. Data shows that DouYu's quarterly MAU reached 44.1 million, and quarterly paying users numbered 3.4 million, indicating that user data has stabilized.
Future Outlook: Despite DouYu's current stock price and market value being underestimated, with a PB valuation of only 0.26 times, signs of gradual fundamental improvement are evident. The company recently announced a special cash dividend of 300 million USD, reflecting its confidence in future growth. With the deepening of commercial transformation, DouYu is expected to achieve sustained performance growth in the future, providing more returns for investors through diversified layouts.
